Explore the Flow
Our Four-Step Process
At Ikaroa Falls, we believe the transition from life should be as peaceful as the water that guides it. Here is how we care for your loved one from the moment they arrive in our sanctuary.
1. The Gentle Preparation
Your loved one is placed into a clean, stainless steel vessel with the same level of care and dignity as a traditional service. We use only water and a small amount of an alkaline solution—the same organic minerals found in common soaps—to begin the process.
2. The Flow of Water
Unlike the high heat of flame cremation, Aquamation uses a gentle, heated flow of water to accelerate the natural transition that occurs in the earth. Over the course of several hours, the body is returned to its natural building blocks: mineral remains (mostly calcium phosphate from bone) and nutrient-rich water.
3. Precision Neutralization
We ensure that 100% of the organic byproduct is safe and life-sustaining. By introducing CO2, we naturally balance the pH of the liquid. This turns the solution into a sterile, pH-neutral, and mineral-dense liquid that is ready to be safely returned to the environment as a gift for the earth. Learn more about this process here.
4. The Return to Nature
Once the process is complete, you are presented with the pure mineral remains (similar to "ashes" but whiter and finer). At this stage, you also have the unique option to receive a portion of the nutrient-rich water to nourish a memorial tree or garden, or if you prefer not to receive the ashes back you can choose to have Ikaroa Falls return it to the earth in a communal and reverent Scattering at Sea ceremony. on your behalf.
*Because we use water rather than fire, the remains are 20-30% more abundant, whiter in color, and represent the pure mineral essence of your loved one.
